The 2016 Heineken Designated Driver Challenge is a competition between two MLS clubs: Chicago Fire and D.C. United. The Chicago Fire won the Designated Driver Challenge by earning the most total points at the end of the 2015 regular season.
In addition to bragging rights, the winning club this year will earn a pretty cool trophy and supporters of both clubs will enjoy a safe and family-friendly experience at the stadium. The Heineken Designated Driver Challenge is proof, once again, that responsibility really does have its rewards!
The clubs need help from their supporters in order to earn points in the Designated Driver Challenge. For every supporter who makes a pledge to be a designated driver at the stadium during regular season home games, that club will score a win and earn three points. Clubs can earn an extra point for each supporter who likes the Designated Driver Challenge posts on the clubs’ Facebook pages, retweets or likes tweets on Twitter and likes posts on Instagram. Extra points will be added to the designated driver point total to determine each club’s total score. The club with the greatest total score wins!
Designated drivers must meet the following critera:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Promise not to drink alcohol at the game
- Provide safe and sober transportation for their group
Supporters may only pledge to be designated drivers once per game.
